  • Every patient has the right to respectful care and is protected against all forms of harassment, exploitation and abuse.
  • Have equal access to healthcare and not be discriminated against race, sex, religion, age sexuality or disability.
  • Have your spiritual/religious needs accommodated and your values and beliefs respected.
  • Your treatment and other details kept private.
  • Get information on Hospital’s policies.
  • Get discharged and refuse care against the advice of medical professionals.
  • To be informed of changes in medical treatment methods.
  • Bring along a caretaker of your choice, as per hospital’s policies.

  • Settle your bills properly through the accepted methods of payment.

Getting the right treatment is as much your responsibility as it’s the doctor’s. Ensure you follow the below to maximize the time spent on your appointment.

Keep a note of your symptoms

Pay attention to all your symptoms and try to note them down. A Doctor will be able to prescribe the right kind of treatment only when he knows all the symptoms. This can include all the doubts that you have.

Carry details of your medical history

Compile the details of your complete medical history, including the medications you currently take and the ones you used to. Knowing all your details will help your physician make the correct diagnosis. Also carry reports of medical tests that you took in the last 1 year.

Details of health history of close blood relatives

This list can include siblings, parents, grandparents, uncles and even your children. Knowing your family health history will aid your physician in diagnosing better.

Carry your personal details

This can include your proof of address and the hospital ID. Carrying your hospital ID, if you have one, can help you save on the registration fees. Your hospital ID may also give your physician details of previous treatments that you availed at the hospital.

More than all these you need to be transparent with your physician and follow the course of treatment prescribed. The most important thing is to be on time for your appointment.

Diet

Proper nutrition plays a vital role before and after any procedure. Our dietician will meet you to assist you in preparing your diet chart. We recommend to reduce the caffeine intake before and 2 weeks following the procedure.

  • A protein rich diet is encouraged
  • Vegetarians can rely on tofu, chickpeas (Sundal) and green leafy vegetables.
  • Because of the medicines and less mobility during the initial 2 weeks following the procedure, constipation is expected. Though we administer stool softeners following the procedure, we recommend you to take food rich in fiber content for the first 2 weeks
  • Refrain from Alcohol 1 week prior to the surgery and 3 weeks following the surgery, as it may interact with the drugs provided.
  • If you smoke, its best to stop smoking 4 weeks before surgery and four weeks following surgery. Studies have proved that smokers have higher risk of wound infection and delayed wound healing

Declutter

  • Make your home easy to live in after the surgery.
  • Arrange furniture in a way that it does not obstruct the way to your routine areas in the house.
  • Ensure there are no sharp corners in the house.
  • Remove rugs and electrical cords.

Make it fall-proof

A loss of balance and a need for space makes people who have recently had total knee replacement prone to falls.

  • Installing hand rails (especially in the bathtub or shower).
  • Using a raised toilet seat.
  • Adding a handrail in your shower and next to your toilet.
  • Adding texture to slippery floors.
  • Using a walking device at all times until you’re more stable.
  • Installing night-lights.

Prepare your recovery area

Ensure you have all these things within your arm’s reach.

  • Eyeglasses
  • Phone/cellphone (and charger)
  • Television remote
  • Tablet
  • Books
  • Medications/tissues
  • Bottle of water
  • Snacks

Most importantly, Ask for help. Just immediately after the surgery having someone around is very helpful. Consider asking a friend or loved one to stay with you during the initial recovery period, or arrange for in-home care. Even if you live with a spouse or other family member, having an extra pair of hands available to help is always a good idea.

You will be given a medication chart to follow at home, which will take care of your pain, insomnia and avoiding post operative complications. You can expect a call from our clinical staff the next day morning by 8 am to check on your general well being.
One of our clinical staff will also visit you at your home the next day following surgery for dressing the wound and to do a basic assessment of your health. After the office hours (7.30 pm), you can always approach us by calling the surgeon or the hospital, in case of unbearable pain or any symptoms which is alarming.
